Design as research and connection between some areas of the University

Title: Design as research and connection between some areas of the University Gonçalo furtado 1. Research objectives The aim of this research and communication is to reflect on drawing as research and a link between some areas of the university. / The term desenhar comes from the Italian word “disegno”, to designate and give a name. In other words, to know. To better understand the world around us, our relationship with it, and even ourselves. / Attending the architecture course at FAUP requires taking drawing courses in the 1st and 2nd year. I learned drawing by attending these classes, which I think were taught respectively by the painter Professor Joaquim Vieira and the sculptor Alberto Carneiro. As teachers of practical classes, in 1993/94, I was taught by the sculptor José Grade, and in 1994-95 by the designer Francisco Providência. / Drawing. 2. Methodology The proposed methodology is both theoretical and practical. / In fact, once the course is over, architects can use drawing for representation and research. In the case of architecture teachers, drawing can also be used as a means of investigating an expanded field, which is what architecture can be. An instrument and practice of re-presentation - making present, in a new form, now rediscovered. / Personally, over the years, I have enjoyed experiences that have not failed to comprise relationships between the fields of architecture and the arts. Some have included collaborations, as a professor at FAUP with people from FBAUP, etc. In particular, collaborations with Graciela Machado, around events such as “Shelter” (Galeria dos Leões), Print (FBAUP-FAUP), Atelier Nomade (FBAUP-FIMS). There will also be references to events with other professionals and institutions, for example with the “Casa da esquina” association (Coimbra), with the Júlio Resende Foundation (co-authored with Ricardo Martins), or with the “Risco tudo” cycle of exhibitions (FAUP drawing group). / 3. Contributions. In short, within the scope of this communication, we will be interested in promoting a reflection on drawing, based on the experiences/cases/examples mentioned, seeing drawing as a means of research and connection between disciplines and areas inside and outside the University. / 4 .
